Most “air-gap failures” we see in the lab are not cinematic breaches. They are a spare laptop that still has a Bluetooth radio enabled, a phone used to photograph seals that later syncs to a cloud album, or a USB stick that also carries personal files from an online machine.
What quiet failure looks like
In Offline Signing Desk Review we ask learners to list every radio, cable, and cloud account that could touch the room. The exercise feels pedantic until someone discovers release notes were opened on the signing host “just once.” That once is enough to invalidate the story the memo was telling.
What to write instead
Prefer observations: “Wi‑Fi hardware present; driver removed on date X by person Y; verified with command Z.” Avoid slogans like “fully air-gapped.” Peers can challenge observations; they cannot challenge slogans usefully.
